A Day in The Life
I am often reminded how difficult it can be for our folks who are trying to do the right thing for themselves.
Today at the Kitchen a young man came up to me looking for some help. He is a recovering heroin addict and every day he goes to the methadone clinic off Howard Avenue.
His problem is this; he lives in Waterbury and the only methadone clinics available are in either Hartford or New Haven and he needed bus fare to get back and forth.
The weekends present another problem; the buses run on a different schedule and he needs to be at the clinic by a certain time. Then he may have several hours until there is a bus that returns to Waterbury.
I gave him a few dollars for bus fare and reminded him that we serve breakfast on Saturdays at Saint Luke's Church. He said that he probably couldn't get there in time, but he was happy to learn that our associates at Star of Jacobs Church offer lunch on the last Saturday of the month.
Didn't solve all his problems but it helped.
