Hope for the Hopeless--Thank you Neighbor to Neighbor Lifeline Grant

Delores is not a stranger to hard times. She was widowed at 50 years old, forced to live only on her husband's worker's compensation. Shortly afterwards, Delores not being able to keep up with living expenses, was evicted and had to live with her daughter. However, family, with their own financial challenges, were unable to take care of their mom. Delores was forced to relocate. She transitioned to senior housing with only social security as her income.

In the meantime, Delores had developed a heart condition requiring surgery. Her health continued to decline despite the surgery. She was placed on oxygen and numerous medications, resulting in high medical and electrical bills. In desperation, Delores contacted the Miller Senior Center's Outreach Department. The counselor is revisiting her Title 19 benefits and searching for other aid.

In the meantime, her bills have become insurmountable, leaving Delores more stressed and feeling hopeless with each passing day. Being proactive, the center's counselor informed her of the the Neighbor to Neighbor Lifeline grant. Today, Delores has been given back that hope and now is looking forward to tomorrow.
