Hope Not Lost
A two parent, family of five was in need of rental assistance. The father of the house, lost his job due to a layoff. Which left only the mother's salary to care for the family. The car was in need of repairs, the family also needed food and household supplies, and were concerned about school supplies for the children. When talking with this family they were very stressed because of their situation. They were feeling very hopeless.
The N2N program was explained to the family and you could see their faces and bodies being lifted. They were very excited because they were afriad of eviction. We spoke taught them how to speak with the landlord to get their rent lowered until the father of the house goes back to work. This did work and the landlord has taken off $300.00 dollars until the father goes back to work. We were able to give a community resource to assist with car repairs, send them to our sister agency Centro San Jose for food, at our Lombard site we were able to get mother and father counseling, household items and give the children school supplies.
The family has called several times thanking us for keeping them in their warm and safe house.
