Keeping the lights on and keeping a family together.
Charlie* came to us struggling with depression. He was receiving the basic of Social Security Disability and his wife was looking at unemployment as her job in the school system was coming to a close for the summer. He has two teenage children and he was having difficulty facing the prospect of not being able to provide for them.
When he came to us, he had just received a shut off notice for his electricity. They were desperate. If they were to lose electricity, the children would have to leave and live with friends until it was resolved. We were able to provide them with assistance for their utility so that it would remain on and they would be able to go onto a payment plan that would be affordable during the summer months. At the prospect of not losing their electricity, the family was able to better assist the husband/father through this bout of depression and remain together.
