More Successes Made Possible by the Neighbor to Neighbor LifeLine Fund

Anabel* is a Section 8 client who has been residing in an elderly/disabled complex in North Haven.  Last year residents started making anonymous complaints against her dog.  This dog has been certified for medical needs and is necessary to the client.  Recently, management sent her a letter stating that she had to correct the situation or legal action would be filed.  When speaking with management, the only action they would take to remedy the situation was for her to purchase insurance for the dog.  Legal action began and the threat of being evicted was eminent.  HHSI was able to secure her an apartment in Branford, close to the center of town where she will not have to worry about walking her dog, losing her dog, or facing eviction.   Thanks to the N2N grant an eviction leading to homelessness was averted.

Jimmy came to HHSI direct from the Yale hospital.  He had been hospitalized after his mother was removed from their home and placed in a nursing home.  Upon discharge he had no where to go and only had enough money to last 3 weeks at a hotel.  He could not return to his former home as it was being sold to support his mother’s placement in the nursing home.  Working with a landlord who has been with HHSI for many years, we secured an apartment for him in North Branford.  The N2N grant was able to provide the money to get the apartment and prevent him from being on the streets.

B.M. was fleeing a domestic violence situation that had become very volatile.  Working with JFA Management, an apartment was secured very quickly.  The N2N grant enabled her to move into her apartment with much needed speed.

Donald relocated to CT from Florida with no money and no means of support.  His family has been helping to keep him safe at a motel while an apartment was sought.  Working with JFA Management and HHSI, his brother was able to secure an apartment, despite no income for the client.  The N2N Grant allowed for quick entry into the apartment and has provided housing for someone who had no home.

Corinne has been looking for subsidized housing for over 6 months.  She had been placed on the waiting list for Bella Vista and when she was notified on the 19th of March that she could have an apartment for April 1st if she had Security Deposit and 1st Months rent she thought she would have to refuse the apartment.  The N2N Grant gave her the opportunity to sign the lease on the 25th and establish her in a new home.  She had been staying in her car prior to this and now has a beautiful subsidized apartment to call home.
