One Month Rent Reprieve- A true blessing for many
Judy* recently moved into a new apartment in East Haven. Two months after her move, her hours at one of her jobs were cut in half. She has been able to pay her rent and bills, but has selectively been alternating between bills to ensure that something is received each month. The 1 month rent assistance was able to give her a way to catch up on her bills.
Richard Smith* was accepted into subsidized housing. He had recently been admitted into a Sober House and was required to stay there for 60 days. To ensure that he did not lose the subsidized housing which is very hard to obtain, he needed assistance to pay the Sober House, so that he would be able to secure the subsidized housing. The N2N Grant allowed him to remain in the Sober House and secure the subsidized housing so he would have a place to live when he was released.
Cassie Yoman* has been struggling with bills. She receives disability, is a full-time student and is able to just ‘get by’ with her rent, bills and other expenses. The N2N grant will provide her the ability to catch up on her bills, and purchase food for a month.
Bobby Martin* is a Section 8 participant. For the year 2009, the Fair Market Rent values were lowered. While this alone is not that staggering, the property he lives at raised their rents. This created a difference which, unfortunately, had to be passed down to the client. He lost his job in February and has been receiving unemployment. The new rent is not something that is affordable on his current income. He is actively seeking a FT job and plans on being back to work come May, but the N2N grant paying his April rent will ensure that he is not facing homelessness right now and will allow him to pay his other expenses.
