Regaining a sense of footing from N2N

Ms J., a 35 year old woman with two young children, was referred to us by her minister. She had been living with her elderly mother and managing to support herself on a minimum wage job as her mother’s income covered their rent. But when her mother’s health took a sudden turn for the worse, and she had to move to a nursing home, this single mother felt the rug had been pulled out from under her. She was overwhelmed with a series of bills including car payment, insurance, medical bills and the usual costs to help keep food in the house and clothing on her growing children. In addition, Ms J. was going to court to try to get child support from her former husband and there were legal bills that needed to be paid. Having nowhere to turn for help she began taking cash advances on her credit card which she knew was going to implode if she didn’t pay them off quickly. When she came to us she was trying to run a house, take care of her children, hold onto her job, look for a new apartment and deal with the legal matters pressing on her. It seemed as if she was not going to be able to hold things together. N2N funds broke the cycle of helplessness and gave Ms. J a sense of regaining her footing. N2N provided help with rent, car payment and a phone bill and Ms J felt steadier on her feet. The help was small compared with her needs but was enough to give her a plan and make the future look manageable. She was very grateful for the help.
