Peanut Butter and Eggs

Peanut butter and eggs are the two foods “Jennifer”, a senior, would sustain herself on after her income and food stamp benefit runs out each month. Instead, she has become a customer at Community Action Agency of New Haven’s Open Choice Food Pantry. In her case, the recent shortfall in terms of food security came from a reduction in her SNAP benefits. Jennifer said, “if I could not visit the food pantry, I would have to spend money I don’t have on food when I need that money to pay for bills”.

Finding Refuge at CAANH

In desperate need for heating assistance “John” came to Community Action Agency of New Haven (CAANH) this past winter.  Although he holds a Bachelors degree, John is underemployed.  He received his energy assistance, but was one of many customers this past winter that needed help with food, but was too embarrassed to ask.  “I remember sitting in the chair during the application process for the food pantry nearly in tears because of the pride that kept me from receiving these services months before.&rdq
