2010 N2N LifeLine Grant Awards
The Jewish Federation and United Way of Greater New Haven, with the continued leadership of volunteer chair Andrew Eder, are working together again in 2010 to raise awareness and funds to address hunger and housing needs in Greater New Haven. Based on input from service providers and donors, the N2N 2010 effort will invest in local organizations meeting emergency needs (housing, food, one-time emergency relief) and working to help people not only get out of crisis but also stay out of crisis with supports like financial coaching, skills training, resume development, etc.

2009 N2N LifeLine Grant Awards
In winter 2009, United Way of Greater New Haven and The Jewish Federation of Greater New Haven joined together to help the growing number of families and individuals who found themselves facing food and housing insecurity in this economic downturn. Through the generosity of hundreds of donors and volunteers, $642,400 was raised and distributed over a 12 week period to support local agencies faced with significantly increased demand for emergency food and housing assistance.
Residents of twenty cities and towns in New Haven County received emergency housing, food and shelter services from non-profit, faith, and municipal organizations made possible by the fundraising efforts.
As a Result of 2009 Fundraising Efforts:
-
352 families are in homes that would have otherwise been lost or inaccessible due to foreclosure or other economic strains
-
Over 160,000 additional meals have been served to children and adults
-
290 families have received one-time emergency support to help them avert or pull-out of crises

Fact
Before the overflow shelter opened in November, Columbus House was turning away 8-10 men a night. They would be referred to Emergency Shelter Management Services (Immanuel Baptist), which is also operating at capacity.
