Connecticut has three major programs at the state level to help homeowners keep their homes. Please call the CT Housing Finance Authority for assistance at their toll free number (877)571-CHFA.

You may also call the Mortgage Foreclosure Assistance toll-free hotline established by the Governor's Office and the CT Department of Banking at (877) 472-8313 and receive advice and guidance.

In addition, the Home Ownership Preservation Foundation provides a free hotline at 1-888-995-HOPE with HUD-approved counselors certified to address your situation. You may also find additional information and online counseling at www.995hope.com/.

The Real Options, Overcoming Foreclosure (ROOF) Project is here to help. Growing out of Mayor John DeStefano's mortgage foreclosure task force, ROOF is a coordinated response to the growing mortgage foreclosure crisis in New Haven. For further information you may visit www.theroofproject.org/.

 Looking for unemployment insurance and employment and training resources?

Looking for food assistance?
The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program helps families afford the cost of food at the grocery store, which you can learn more about at www.ct.gov/dss/cwp/view.asp

United Way Community Resource Database

Our database contains over 5,500 health and human service providers, 16,000 sites, and more than 50,000 service-sites to help meet your needs. Most of the resources are Connecticut-based. If you do not find the service you need, please dial 2-1-1 from anywhere in Connecticut to speak to a specialist. We are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

 211 Navigator

Think of The 2-1-1 Navigator as an interactive interview. First we ask some basic information. Next, we ask some more questions based on your first answers. Try it. You'll be surprised at how easy it is. Once you are done, we will tell you which federal and state assistance programs you may qualify for, and how to apply for them. The 2-1-1 Navigator can't promise you will qualify, but it can tell you if it's worth your time to apply.
